Sunday morning when we woke up in our hotel room in cedar I could not stop crying.. I realized this was my last full day with my husband and that in 24 hours he would be on a plane back to Salt Lake and then on to Chicago. When we finally made it to Vegas and unpacked and put stuff in storage I could not stop crying because I felt like our life together was temporarily over. Ryker and I would be here in Vegas and Jeff would not be coming home every night to be with us. I have the hardest time when I start to think about Ryker, and how guilty I feel that all of a sudden his dad is gone and he doesn't understand why and I can't really explain it to him to the point where he understands. Luckily before Jeff left he made ryker a book of pictures of the two of them, and he also bought those recordable books and recorded his voice so he can "read" to Ryker everynight. I feel so bad because Ryker had no Idea what was coming and I had no way to prepare him, and it just breaks my heart because he is Jeff's number one fan, such a daddy's boy. When it was time for bed I kept telling Jeff that I didn't want to go to sleep because when I did I would wake up to him leaving us for 7 months!
He had to be up by 5:30 the Monday morning to make his flight back to Salt Lake. Hugging and kissing him for the last time was the hardest thing I ever had to do, I didn't ever want to let go! I stayed pretty busy that day organizing all my stuff and getting all settled in, I was lucky enough to be able to text and talk to him the whole day, which made the day much easier, but I knew that after Tuesday this wasn't going to be an option anymore for the next 2 months and that's when things were going to get hard. Tuesday morning I was lucky enough to have Brian FaceTime me while they were all at Jeff's swearing in. I felt like I was there and got to watch my husband in action which made me so proud. I would have done anything to have been there in person, but Jeff didn't want to have Ryker make 3 trips back and forth from Vegas. He really did insist on us not driving back to Salt Lake Monday and back to Vegas Tuesday.. Which turned out to be a good thing since it snowed those days. Jeff was able to call and text me while he was at the airport for a few hours, and he sent me a text or two when he landed and told me he would call me when he made it to RTC. 3 hours later I finally got my 2 second phone call from him, he said he was doing okay and things were good.. And that he would be mailing his box with all of his civilian belongings to me... He told me he loved me and that he thinks he can call me in a few weeks ( therefore my phone will be glued to my side so I don't miss his call.. Just like it was all today!!) I asked him if he would get to go to bed soon because I knew he was so tired, but he said they don't get to sleep the first night, he was going to be up for 24 hours... Which led to me googling why they are up for the first 24 hours.. Which led to me reading the things that go on the first few days.. Which makes me so proud of him. I can't imagine what he is going through and I can't imagine the things that he might be feeling... But I know he will do great! I'm looking forward to getting my first letter and we have been brainstorming fun ideas of treats to mail to him! I don't know how I'll be feeling the next few days.. Adjusting to not having any more contact with him at all..And wondering how everything is going for him and what he is doing! Luckily Ryker and I have a fun trip planned to San Diego and Disneyland in 2 weeks..that gives us something to look forward to.. And then of coarse our big trip at the beginning of April to see Jeff graduate bootcamp!! The only downfall.. We only get like 2-3 days with him and then we have to say good-bye again.. But at least at that point he will have his phone back! Yay!! Well, I will try to keep our blog posted with what's going on with Jeff because that's what he wanted for his family and friends!!! I'll update as soon as I hear from him!
Face timing his swearing in... So proud of him!
